Pre-McAfee
I had taken up multiple UX jobs before I graduated, and I worried that breaking into the tech industry may be difficult. My mentor said if you don’t have enough projects to show, then why don’t you create some projects and just keep designing while you interview and look for jobs. I gave this a little thought and challenged myself to sketch 30 apps in 30 days! For 30 days I woke up, came up with an idea for an app, then sketched the interactions. It wasn’t detailed, it wasn’t beautiful or near perfect but it was a great exercise.
This was when Windows 8 was about to be released. I researched the design patterns used in the new release and designed the wireframes based on requirements created by the user research team.

What kind of users use security software?
Being new to the security space, creating this mindmap helped me gain more understanding of some of the key users.

Storyboards are created during brainstorming sessions for new products or for re-imagining outdated designs. This is an example of one of many storyboards I created while imagining new products for McAfee (Intel.) I was part of a core team working to create a futuristic model of what kind of products people will want to use and what is the need of today’s extremely connected world.
Personally, I always find this part and mind maps to be the most fun and engaging part of the design process. This is what makes user experience, you can construct the craziest scenarios that could happen and then envision a product. Nothing about it needs to make sense right from the get-go. Once these are done, we dig deeper to address the problems and combine solutions and create one or two amazing products.
